Donald E. Antonson, D.D.S, M. Ed., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (Interim), Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Buffalo, The State University of New York
Dr. Antonson received his DDS degree from Loyola University, Chicago. He served as a Naval Dental Officer at Great Lakes Naval Hospital while maintaining two part-time dental practices in the Chicago area. He has been in private dental practice in Illinois and Florida, and then he joined the faculty at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. In this capacity he held many academic positions including Chair of Operative Dentistry, Director of Clinics, and President of the Faculty Assembly. He has been voted Teacher of the Year on several occasions and honored by President Gerald Ford for his Service to the Profession. He has been selected as a member of OKU, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the International Association of Dental Facial Esthetics, as well as being the Vice Chairman of the World Federation of Laser Dentistry (WFLD) North American and Canadian Division.
Dr. Antonson earned his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Florida. In 2000 he was invited to assume the position as Director of Clinical Research for the Dentsply Caulk, and thereby left his position at University of Florida as Professor of Operative Dentistry. In 2001 he was appointed as Professor and Chair of Cariology and Restorative Dentistry and Clinic Director at Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Currently he is Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Restorative Dentistry, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Interim) at theCollege of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo, SUNY.
His research interests include adhesive dentistry, micro-conservative dentistry, cariology, remineralization, dental lasers, periodontal / restorative relationships, polymerization techniques, indirect restoration techniques, ergonomics, CAD-CAM, and ceramic-based restorations. His basic philosophy of minimally invasive dentistry predicates all of his treatment and teaching recommendations. His curriculum vitae lists over two hundred national and international presentations as well as many publications including texts, teaching manuals, research abstracts, articles and book chapters.
Dr. Convissar is a pioneer in the field of lasers. One of the first dentists to incorporate lasers into general practice, Dr. Convissar has 19 years of experience with CO2, Diode, Nd.YAG and Erbium wavelengths. An international lecturer from London to Florence to Sydney to Bangkok to Hong Kong and everywhere in between, Dr. Convissar has written three textbooks and over a dozen peer reviewed papers translated into eight languages.
His ground breaking laser treatments have been featured on NBC-TV News, CBS-TV News, the WABC Radio Network, and other programs. He has been awarded Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Academy of Dento-Facial Esthetics, and Mastership in the Academy of Laser Dentistry. Dr. Convissar practices laser, cosmetic and restorative dentistry in New York City. Dr. Convissar also serves as Director of Laser Dentistry at New York Hospital Queens.
Dr. Malmstrom presently is holding the position as Chair of the Division of General Dentistry, Program Director, Advanced Education in General Dentistry and Director of Continuing Dental Education at the University of Rochester Eastman, Department of Dentistry. He completed his dental training at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden in 1981 and thereafter Dr. Malmström completed a two year General Practice Residency Program at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 1984.
Before accepting the position at the University of Rochester Eastman Dental Center Dr. Malmstrom held the position as the Chair of Department of General Dentistry at Emory University in Atlanta as well as director of the General Practice Program and Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program.
Dr. Hans Malmström is interested in most areas of general dentistry but especially in the areas of esthetic dentistry, implantology, laser, TMJ, oral surgery, halitosis, cariology. He is very active in clinical research and are presently performing clinical trials in regard to dental implants, dental adhesives, dental cements and bleaching agents.
Dr. Malmström has organized and is the Director of the annual participation hands-on Esthetic Program at the University of Rochester. He has published sixteen articles and forty abstracts for various dental publications. He is a member of the International Association of Dental Research, the Academy of Osseo-Integration, the American Association of Dental Research, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the American Dental Association. Dr. Malmström is the former president of the postgraduate general dentistry section of the American Association for Dental Schools. He was a consultant to the Veterans Administration from 1985 to 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was on the advisory board for public health in Georgia. Dr. Malmström was appointed program director of the Eastman Dental Center’s one- and two-year advanced education in general dentistry program in 1992. Under his leadership, the program has become predominately a two-year general dentistry program, with emphasize on research and esthetic dentistry.

He has an evidence-based recent publication on Lasers in Dentistry, which covers almost all aspects of Laser applications in dentistry with evidence from the current and classic published literature.
